Adding Content

Q: What makes it's an orange templates better than others out there?

A: it's an orange integrates award-winning design with our very own Bamboo content management system to give you the best in website production. We allow the user to easily customize their website by adding any number of images (using Bamboo’s built-in Image Library), change colors, add meta content, news and blog articles, among other features. We also offer Google Analytics to help monitor your site’s traffic, a valuable tool in helping your business or website grow. And we’re always available to help you with any problems you might have.

Q: What is a content management system and what makes it's an orange special?

A: A content management system (CMS) is a program used to create the content of a Web site. The content includes files, images, electronic documents and text. The idea behind a CMS is to make these files available interoffice, as well as over the Web. Bamboo CMS was developed by it's an orange, and we’re pretty darn proud of it. On the technical side, the platform is PHP and its supported database is MySql. On the practical side, Bamboo allows the user to import images and then place them practically anywhere on the site, completely customize settings like color and text styles in a matter of seconds, check web mail and site stats using Google Analytics, and add archived news and blog content. In short, Bamboo just makes your website better. Our developers are always willing and eager to answer any questions you might have, and considering they created Bamboo, they can probably help you out with any problem!

Q: I want to insert a logo for my website. How do I do this?

A: Click on the “I Want to adjust site settings” button. Under the “Branding” tab, the first item you can change is the logo. Simply click the Browse button and select your image file from your computer. After you add it, click “Submit Changes” at the bottom and you’re set!

Q: Does the logo have to be pre-sized?

A: On a few of the templates, yes. In those cases, use Photoshop or any other program that allows you to resize an image. If you do not have any of this software, or are just having a difficult time, we have Photoshop, we use it every day and we’ll be happy to re-size an image for you.

Q: How can I add a photo for the home page?

A: Click the “Go to image library” button. You can then upload any number of images from your computer by browsing for the image file. After the image is loaded into the image library, go back and click “Edit main pages.” Select the page you want to add the image to, click Browse next to Sidebar Image, select the image from the image library, and click Update at the bottom.

Q: I noticed that there is a section called My Blog. Where does this show up on the site, and what sort of content should I add?

A: The blog is a page on your site that allows users to add whatever they want: think of it as a public diary, a list of accomplishments, a space to work out philosophical or mundane ideas… basically whatever you want! It differs from a normal content page in that users can add Tags (keywords that allow for grouping among subjects) and sign their article (which allows for grouping by author). All blog posts are archived unless the user deletes them. Blog pages are a great way to allow for more interaction between a visitor and your website.

Q: What is a footer?

A: A footer is the line of information found on the bottom of a webpage. It usually consists of information relating to copyright information and often includes a privacy policy.

Q: How do I add links to my text?

A: As you are editing text within page content, there is a toolbar below the text box. If you highlight the word that you would like to link and select the connected chain (if you scroll over the items, their purpose becomes visible), a link edit box pops up, and from here you can add the URL, Target (determines if the linked page opens in a new window or not), Title, and Class (text style). After you add this info, just hit the Insert button and then Submit Changes.

Changing the look and feel of your website

Q: How do I change the font?

A: Start by clicking on the “I Want to adjust site settings” button. From there, click on the “Text Styles” tab and proceed to alter your font, size, height, etc. Hey, just MS Word! I know that program!

Q: HELP! I copied text from Word and I can't format it.

A: Word is very stubborn with its text styles. Sometimes these are hard to remove. First thing you can try is to highlight the offensive text in your text editor and hit the button that looks like a #D rectangle. That's an eraser. In theory, that should clear all formatting. But, like I sad, Word is stubborn. We recommend "cleaning" your text by first copying it into a program like "WordPad" and clear all formatting. Then, copy this text and paste into your editor. This should do it for you. Now you can apply styles using the styles dropdown.

Q: I found a color combination and text style that I want to use for every page on my site. Is there an easy way to add it?

A: There sure is. When you have the color and style you want, simply go into the “Colors” tab, enter a name for your custom configuration in the orange box in the lower right hand side of the page, and click “save.” To use this configuration later, just click “load an existing configuration” on the same page and select your setting. The color and style will automatically be changed on every page of your website.

Q: What is link style?

A: it's an orange allows you to change your link color, which can be found under the Link Styles tab in the main settings editor. This allows you the ability to make a link stand out from the regular text.

Q: What is a link?

A: Whoa, whoa. Web 101 right here. Okay, great! That’s what it's an orange is for. You know those underlined words on websites? Usually blue? When you click them, they take you to another page? That’s a link. And if you don’t like blue links, it's an orange’s link style allows you to make it whatever color you choose.

Meta Information

Q: What are site stats?

A: Site Stats, which are tracked using Google Analytics, give you an in-depth look at all of the visitors to your website. You can find out almost anything about your website’s visitors, including their country, how long they spent at your site, how they found your site, what they clicked on and more.

Q: What is Meta information?

A: Meta information refers to three items found in the content editor: Meta Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords. The main function of meta information is to generate visibility for your site in search engines such as Google. Basically, you want to put as much information in these fields - while keeping it brief - as possible. So if somebody types “Party” into Google, hey! Kirk’s Party Planning! They’re the life of the party! Meta information is a valuable tool in helping your business and/or website grow!

Q: What is a tagline, and where does it show up?

A: A tagline is just a catchy sentence that sums up your website. It is displayed above the main image, next to the header bar. For instance, if your website is Kirk’s Party Planning, your tagline would be something along the lines of “We’re The Life Of The Party!”

Hosting & Email

Q: How much does webhosting cost?

A: $100 a year, or a little over 8 bucks a month. You probably spend a lot more on coffee!

Q: Can I host my it's an orange site somewhere else like GoDaddy.com?

A: Oh man. What? In the web world, this is sorta like bringing your Starbucks into another restaurant. Our programming is proprietary (Bamboo CMS), so allowing it to be installed on a server owned by someone else would expose the source code. Plus, our hosting is super cheap and reliable.

Q: I already have a website hosted somewhere else, can I switch to it's an orange?

We got your back, brother. Just go to you registrar and point your DNS to our name servers: dns1.stabletransit.com and dns2.stabletransit.com. If that sounds scary, we can help you.

Q: What is DNS hosting?

Short for Domain Name Service, an Internet service that translates domain names to IP addresses.

Q: So... what is an IP address then?

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical identification (logical address) that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes. In less nerdy terms, it's basically a unique street address for your computer.

Q:  Can you register a new web address for me?

Yes. You will need to give us 2 or 3 domain name options in order of preference and will try and register one of them for you. But it's a big world full of mean domain hoarders. Lots of addresses are already taken. We'll do our best and contact you if all of your choices are unavailable. We charge $15/year to register your domain. Note: This fee is separate from your webhosting charges. Also, if you already own your domain name, you will not be charged this fee.

Q: Will I have downtime with my email or website when my domain transfers?

If all domain records will be pointing to the same email and web providers and all zone file information is accurately recorded, there will not be any email or website downtime.

Q: When does my 12 months of hosting start?

A: On the first day of the following month. If you sign up for our services on May 3, your 12 months of hosting begins on June 1. This makes it easy for billing purposes.

Q: Do I get an email address with my webhosting?

Of course. Each it's an orange account comes with 25 email boxes.

Q: I'm an email junkie—I have to check my mail all of the time. Please tell me that it's an orange offers webmail services.

it's an orange runs a customized mail environment with one of the best webmail interfaces on the planet. (It's a modern ajax-powered application, so you can drag and drop to your heart's content. It works so well that some people use it as their primary means of checking email.) There's even a mobile view formatted for cell phones and PDAs. Finally, you can check mail in desktop clients using standard IMAP or POP protocols.

Q: I'm worried about getting a virus. Do you offer any anti-virus protection? If so, what programs do you use?

Antivirus Protection is set up and enabled for all of your email accounts. Our email gateways filter incoming e-mail into two stages using two different software technologies. The software will automatically delete any suspected virus, and then deliver the message. Virus definitions are rapidly synced with the latest updates, and we have the capacity to handle large virus outbreaks without slowing down email delivery.

Q: What about spam protection?
Again, not really a question, but here's the skinny: Our advanced email platform utilizes multiple levels of anti-spam protection. The spam filtering system protects your mailbox by gathering real-time spam intelligence from a number of sources and then actively using this intelligence to block spam. Tens of thousands of recent spam email characteristics are tracked, which alone identify the majority of spam. In addition, a number of third-party spam databases, several DNS checks, and several message-formatting tests are used when analyzing every email that comes in.
Also, you can control personal safe lists and blacklists to further keep your inboxes clean. Safe lists allow certain senders (email addresses, domains, or mail server IP addresses) to bypass the anti-spam system. Conversely, blacklists allow customers to block mail from certain senders. Customers can also control what to do with spam once it has been identified.

We aggregate all of this data into a collection of several thousand constantly improving spam tests, which are performed on every email that enters the email hosting system. The results of these tests are combined together to identify almost all spam with virtually zero false-positives.

Admin

Q: What is a daughter page?

A: A daughter page is basically a subpage of a main content page. You can connect them to any existing content page on your site by selecting the appropriate parent page in the daughter page edit section.

Q: I don’t understand the “My Account” area. Can you please explain it?

A: Clicking on “My Account” takes you to the User Admin menu. Here you can set admin levels, which allow a user to access certain features. In most cases, you will have all of the functionality of an upper-level user, minus the ability to add or delete new users. Under this menu you can also access and edit the Configuration Manager, which deals with the custom style settings that you can save and access at any time.

Q: I loved using it's an orange and now my business has a beautiful website!

A: That is a statement, not a question, but thank you nonetheless.

A: We use Google Checkout to process our payments. They accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and maybe even Diner's Club.

Q: Can I write you a check?

A. Yes! If you would to pay by check, please fill out the "I think I want a template" form and indicate in the comments section that you are interested in paying by check. That'll get the ball rolling.
